Small, mid-cap listed firms research scheme by Q2, says SC

In a statement yesterday, the SC said the measures aim to ensure that cyber risk is managed in an optimised manner, in light of the changing landscape in the market.

KUALA LUMPUR : The Securities Commission (SC) will introduce a small and mid-cap public listed companies (plc) research scheme and investment fund in the second quarter of this year to drive investor interest in these companies.

According to SC chairman Tan Sri Ranjit Ajit Singh, the initiative is a three year programme to be implemented in phases.

He noted mid cap companies had not seen much market participation due to among others, insufficient analyst coverage and lack of awareness in the quality of the companies.

"As a step forward, the SC will be working with the industry and the exchange to operationalise the small and mid cap plcs research scheme and the RM3bil special fund as announced in Budget 2017," Ranjit said at a briefing on SC's 2016 Annual Report here on Thursday.
