Firefly sees dip in passengers for 2017

PETALING JAYA: Firefly Airlines expect its passenger number to decline  to 1.6 million this year on a soft consumer market.

Last year, the Malaysia Airlines owned short-haul carrier carried about 1.8 million passengers, which is a drop of 11.1% seen for 2017.

Speaking to reporters at the launch of Firefly's latest product FY e-wallet, the group's CEO Ignatius Ong said the market this year would remain challenging for the group due to the lower household disposal income for discretionary travel and weak ringgit.

"So to stimulate demand, we have launched many new products," Ong said at the launch of FY e-wallet here.

FY e-wallet is a cashless convenience that allows travellers to purchase tickets with Firefly.

On top of that, travellers would also get an additional bonus amount from Firefly based on the category of amount that travellers purchase with Firefly.
