Trading ideas: UMW OG, Ikhmas Jaya, Gabungan AQRS, Asia Poly

UOB Kay Hian Malaysia Research expects Malaysian equities to be energised in 1H17 by a firmer ringgit and general election buzz.

KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Oil & Gas, Ikhmas Jaya, Gabungan AQRS and Asia Poly are among the stocks which could attract trading interest on Thursday after their corporate news, says JF Apex Research.

UMW Oil & Gas won a contract from Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd to provide jack-up drilling rig services.

As for Ikhmas Jaya, the group will undertake the piling and substructure work for a commercial building in Damansara, Selangor, valued at RM37.74mil.

JF Apex Research said Asia Poly plans to raise up to RM4.86mil via a private placement of up to 35.97 million shares based on an indicative price of 13.5 sen per share.

Gabungan AQRS bagged a RM360.98mil subcontract from its 30%-owned associate Kreatif Sinar Gabungan Sdn Bhd to build the Sultan Ahmad Shah Administrative Centre in Kuantan, Pahang.

Overnight on Wall Street, US markets closed higher, led by consumer and material counters after the release of the Federal Reserve's December meeting minutes. However, the Dow fell short of touching the 20,000-point psychological level.

Earlier, European stocks ended lower dragged by inflation data and retail counters.

At Bursa Malaysia, the FBM KLCI jumped 11.94 points to close at 1,647.47.

“Following the recent positive momentum sparked by year-end window dressing, the KLCI could climb further towards the resistance of 1,660,” JF Apex Research said.
