KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank), Maxis Bhd and Genting Bhd underpinned the FBM KLCI’s advance on Thursday.
At 5pm, the KLCI surged 10.62 points or 0.65% to 1,630.30, its intra-day high. The index opened 1.21 points higher at 1,620.89 in the morning. The market traded within a range of 11.21 points between an intra-day high of 1630.30 and a low of 1619.09 during the session.
Turnover was at 1.410 billion shares valued at RM1.44bil. Market breadth was positive with 416 gainers as compared to 287 losers.
Gainers in the FBM KLCI component stocks were led by Maybank, which contributed 3.3651 points to the index, Maxis contributed 2.3554 to the index while Genting lifted the index by 1.4856. Maybank closed 20 sen higher to RM7.95, Maxis rose 19 sen to RM6.10 while Genting closed 24 sen higher at RM7.97.
Laggards in the KLCI component stocks were led by IOI Corp, CIMB Group and Tenaga Nasional Bhd.
Leading the top gainers, Nestle rose RM1.10 sen to RM78.50 and British American Tobacco increased 34 sen to RM43.40.
Dutch Lady and Panasonic Manufacturing ended the day among the top losers, declining 50 sen to RM55 and 40 sen to RM31.08 respectively.
Meanwhile, Brent crude was last traded at US$56.47 per barrel while US crude traded at US$54.19 per barrel.
Elsewhere in the region, Asian shares were a lower with Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average lost 0.01%, the Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.4%, South Korea’s Kospi eased 0.87% and the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong was up 0.83%.
