Trade body sees higher vehicle sales in December

President and chief executive officer Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said four variants were launched for the country - the 1.0 litre (automatic and manual transmission) and the 1.3 litre Premium X (automatic and manual transmission).

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) expects vehicle sales to be slightly better in December than last month due to year-end festive sales promotions.

The MAA said on Monday the optimism was based on the possibility of consumers buying forward in anticipation of increase in car prices in 2017.

In November, the total industry vehicle (TIV) sales rose 2.5% or by 1,206 units to  49,085 vehicles from October.  Of the total vehicles sold, 43,550 were passenger vehicles and the remaining 5,535 commercial vehicles.

The higher sales in November were due to new model launches and “very attractive offers and discounts by car companies”.

Despite the on-month increase in November, the TIV sales were down 12.4% from the 56,068 vehicles a year ago.

Year-to-date, sales fell 13.7% to 515,293 vehicles from 597,306 units in the previous corresponding period.
