Astro appoints Shafiq as new CFO

PETALING JAYA: Pay-TV operator Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd has appointed Shafiq Abdul Jabbar (pic) as the group chief financial officer.

The 39-year-old Shafiq, who will take office on Jan 9, 2017, was the former chief financial officer of CIMB Bank Bhd, a post he held since Jan 1, 2012, according to Astro’s filings with the stock exchange yesterday.

Shafiq holds a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Accounting and Finance) from University of Melbourne and is a fellow member of Australia and New Zealand Institutes of Chartered Accountants.

Prior to CIMB Bank, he was the executive director in PricewaterhouseCoopers, a role he held having advanced from managerial positions in its Kuala Lumpur and London offices. He was then involved in assurance and advisory services to key clients on Bursa Malaysia and the FTSE 100.

Shafiq is not a director in any of the listed companies here nor is he related to the directors and/or major shareholder of Astro.
