New venture will contribute positively to group revenue

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Pensonic Holdings Group has been appointed distributor by MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd to exclusively sell “MYTV Advance” decoder sets in Malaysia.

Both companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at Pensonic headquarters in Bukit Minyak here yesterday.

Under the deal, Pensonic will be distributing “MYTV Advance” decoder sets through its expansive distribution network, ranging from traditional shops to hypermarkets and chain stores with about 1,200 point-of-sale outlets nationwide.

Pensonic Group managing director Vincent Chew, who signed on behalf of the company, said the product could be seen as additional potential sales in the digital broadcasting era to maintain its growth and increase value for its shareholders.

He said the decoder is expected to be in the market in the first quarter of next year, adding that the retail price would be announced soon.

“We are very proud to be working with MYTV on this project. We are lucky to be appointed as the distributor. It will definitely give positive contribution towards the company’s revenue,” he said before the signing ceremony.

Representing MYTV at the signing ceremony was its chief executive officer Datuk Hasnul Hassan.

Witnessing the exchange of documents were Pensonic Group executive chairman Datuk Seri Chew Weng Khak and MYTV head of retail and service support Hashim Adnan.

MYTV was appointed by the Government to be the developer and operator of the country’s Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) infrastructure under the National Broadcasting Digitisation Project.

The project, under the auspices of the Communications and Multimedia Ministry and supervised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, is aimed at migrating the country’s analogue terrestrial broadcasting to digital terrestrial broadcasting by 2018.

Hasnul said MYTV chose to work with Pensonic because of its wide distribution network.

“There are 14 million television owners in the country. Take out the four million Astro subscribers and one million broadband TV users and we still have another nine million TV owners in the market to tap into. The potential is huge,” he said.

The MYTV decoder allows viewers to enjoy all free-to-air (FTA) channels in Malaysia by just connecting their TV sets to the decoder and an ultra-high frequency (UHF) antenna.
