PETALING JAYA: Total vehicle sales in October 2016 fell 14.17% to 47,879 units from a year ago and the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) expects sales in November to be slightly better than October 2016.

Of the 47,879 units sold last month, the MAA said 42,522 were passenger vehicles and the remaining were 5,357 commercial vehicles.

MAA said sales volumes in October was 0.6% or 312 units lower than September due to consumers adopting a wait and see attitude pending announcement of the Budget 2017.

For the January-October period, sales were 466,208 units of which 413,393 were passenger vehicles and the remaining 52,815 units were commercial vehicles.

This was a 13.86% decline from 541,277 units in the same corresponding period a year ago.

“Sales volume for November 2016 is expected to be slightly better than October due to continuation of aggressive sales and marketing campaigns by car companies,” it said.

The MAA said vehicle production in October also declined, slipping to 53,084 units from 55,783 units a year ago. For the January to October period, production fell to 440,049 units from 519,171 in the previous corresponding period.
