KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Bhd posted a load factor of 87% for the third quarter (Q3) of 2016, up six percentage points from the same period last year.
In a statement on Monday, AirAsia said the total number of passengers carried increased by 11% year-on-year (yoy) to 14.23 million, well ahead of the 2% increase in seat capacity.
“At end-3Q16, the group’s total fleet size stood at 173 aircraft, including two aircraft delivered to AirAsia Japan but yet to commence operations,” it said.
On country operations, it said Malaysia AirAsia’s (MAA) load factor rose seven percentage points (ppts) to a record high of 89% in Q3 2016.
Its passenger numbers grew 5% yoy to 6.63 million, while capacity slipped 3%, it said.
It said MAA ended the quarter with a fleet size of 77 aircraft, including two newly-delivered Airbus A320neo.
AirAsia said for Thai AirAsia (TAA), its load factor was up three ppts yoy to 84% in Q3 with passengers carried expanded by 21% yoy to 4.33 million, more than the 17% increase in capacity.
During the quarter, TAA started operating the Hat Yai-Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok-Vientiane routes, as well as, increased frequencies on the Bangkok-Udon Thani route, it said.
It said TAA ended the quarter with a fleet size of 49 aircraft.
As for Indonesia AirAsia, Philippines AirAsia and AirAsia India, their load factors during Q3 stood at 90%, 83% and 88% respectively, it said.
AirAsia said the fleet sizes for these countries as at end of the reviewed quarter stood at 22, 15 and eight aircraft respectively. - Bernama
