SUNGAI PETANI: Mydin Mohamed Holding Sdn Bhd (Mydin) plans to open seven new branches throughout the country over the next two years, including one in Sarawak by year-end.

Director Azmin Saduruddin said the expansion was part of the company’s strategic plan to remain competitive despite the current economic challenges.

“As the current economic situation is quite challenging, we have to be more cautious, but at the same time we have to move forward to remain competitive,” he told reporters after the opening Mydin’s 24th branch in Sungai Petani on Friday.

On the remaining six new branches, Azmin said five stores were expected to be opened in 2017 and the last one was scheduled to be in operations in 2018.

On Mydin’s latest addition, he said the company had invested RM72mil to build the premises which boasted 12 shop lots and 11 bazaars.

“This branch offers about 350 jobs to locals and cater to the needs of some 500,000 consumers from the surrounding areas,” he added. - Bernama
