MAHB unable to comment on PSC revision

MAHB said the amount was still subject to a comprehensive evaluation by KAFS of the quantum or amount of losses.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) says it is not in a position to make any statement on the revision to the passenger services charges (PSC).

The airports operator said on Friday this was because there was no official information  or confirmation from authorities on revision to the PSC.

“MAHB will continue to liaise with the relevant authorities in respect of the details on any potential revision to the PSC and will make further announcement(s) upon being officially notified by the relevant authorities,” it said.

An English language daily, citing an unnamed source, reported that a new PSC will be implemented in all airports soon in a bid to level the playing field.

Among the new charges are a 22% or RM2 hike for domestic PSC to RM11, a 12% or RM8 hike for international PSC to RM73, the introduction of new category for ASEAN flights of RM35, and the equalization of charges between KLIA and klia2.

However, on Thursday, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai was quoted as saying that the new rates will come into effect on Jan 1, 2017. However, he said the details were still being discussed.
