NILAI: Beverage company Coca-Cola is optimistic of Malaysia’s economic outlook and plans to continue investing in the country, starting with expanding its existing manufacturing facility in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.

Coca-Cola’s Bottling Investment Group Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei chief executive officer, Stephen James Lusk, said Coca-Coca Bottlers (M) Sdn Bhd was currently in the midst of purchasing a piece of land adjacent to its existing facility for the purpose.

“The 4.05ha site will enable us to continue our investment in Malaysia, and as we get bigger we (will) need more land and space.

“We are optimistic and excited about the future outlook for our business and the Malaysian economy, and we have benefited from Malaysia’s attractive cost structure, availability of talent, strong economic fundamentals and excellent export infrastructure,” he told a press conference on Coca-Cola Celebrates 80th Year in Malaysia event in Nilai on Thursday.

Lusk said the proposed acquisition would enable the company to expand operations and continue to innovate its products offered in markets in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.

“We are the only the beverage company that makes and sells zero calorie and zero sugar soft drinks in Malaysia and we will continue to innovate our beverage portfolio and serving sizes including smaller packs to provide more choices for our consumers,” he said.

Coca-Cola started its operation in Malaysia in 1936 with a single brand, and today its portfolio comprises more than 80 products including sparkling beverages as Fanta, Sprite, A & W, and Schweppes; and zero-calorie beverages like Coke light and Coke Zero.

Its non-sparkling beverages include Minute Maid Pulpy juice drinks, Heaven & Earth teas, Aquarius isotonic drinks and Dasani Water. - Bernama
