KULAI: D & Y Textile (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of a China-based textile group, is aiming for export sales of RM1bil in the financial year ending Dec 31, 2019.

Director and general manager Steven Cheng said sales would be driven by the second and third phases of the company’s factory operation in the next two years.

“Currently, our export sales stands at about RM220mil, which only consists of yarns.

“With the second and third phases, we hope to increase it to RM1bil,” he told reporters after visiting the company’s factory in Sedenak Industrial Park in Kulai on Tuesday.

Also visiting the factory was International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan.

Cheng said the second phase of expansion would see an increase in yarn spindles from the current 1,000 to 1,200 by end-2017.

“At present, we are also producing about 1,500 to 1,600 tonnes cotton yarns monthly, which translates into a total production of 20 million kg of yarns annually.

“With additional capacity, we hope to increase production by 20% more,” he added.

Cheng said for the third phase, the company was looking at initially producing jeans under its label, as well as contract manufacturing.

“This phase is expected to be completed by mid-2018. For second and third phases, we will be investing RM500mil. For the first, we invested about RM300mil,” he added.

At present, D & Y Textile employs 483 workers, and is looking to increase the workforce in the second and third phases of operation.- Bernama
