Sona in talks with potential liquidators to wind up

KUALA LUMPUR: Sona Petroleum Bhd is in talks with several potential liquidators to wind up the company as the timeframe for it to complete its qualifying acqusitions expires on July 29.

The special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) said on Thursday it would evaluate the liquidators together with their proposals and announce further details on the winding-up after the board has decided on the matter.

“The board intends to commence the winding-up process as soon as possible after the expiry of the permitted timeframe on July 29, 2016,” it said.

In another announcement, Sona said it was served with a writ and a statement of claim dated  July 1 by Messrs Shearn Delamore & Co. filed by Law Asia Pte Ltd in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

“The claim is for US$47,299.12, being fees for alleged work done in relation to a potential acquisition of a qualifying asset which Sona Petroleum was considering at that time but did not materialise, due and owing as at May 15, 2015 together with interest and cost,” it said.

Sona said the claim had no substance and it would defend the claim as appropriate.
