KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, a wireless broadband service provider that has been incurring losses for the past five years, is counting on its newly-launched YES 4G LTE Plan to become profitable.

"It's been a challenging five years of loosing money," YTL Corporation Bhd managing director Tan Sri Dr Francis Yeoh Sock Ping said on Thursday.

YTL Communications is a wholly-owned unit of YTL Power International Bhd, which in turn is a subsidiary of YTL Corp.

YTL Power invested RM4 billion in the broadband venture.

Yeoh said that with the latest 4G LTE network, the group had completed its RM4 billion investment in the telecommunications sector.

"The return on investment will take care of itself. Losses have been reversed recently," he told reporters after the launch of the 4G LTE by Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

Yeoh was also optimistic the broadband venture would be able to chalk up better results, going forward.

The new 4G LTE network, the first of its kind in Malaysia, is a service provided under the YES brand mobile operator, YTL Communications.

He said the service would enable consumers to have voice-over-LTE (VoLTE), which is capable of providing high-definition and crystal clear calls.

Besides 4G LTE, a new high-quality Android device and affordable VoLTE smartphone, called YES Altitude, was also unveiled on Thursday.

In addition, YTL Communications chief executive officer Wing K. Lee announced the introduction of the bucket price plan called 'Double Data', which would allow users access to both 4G LTE and 4G broadband networks with a single service plan.

He said with a price tag of RM70 per month, customers would get 24GB data comprising 16GB of 4G LTE data and 8GB of 4GB Broadband, complete with a free YES Altitude phone, he added. - Bernama
