Volkswagen aims to beat 2015 record sales

KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Group Malaysia Sdn Bhd aims to beat last year's record sales of 7,000 units, boosted by three new sedan models, despite expectations of softer total industry volume (TIV) this year.

Volkswagen Group Malaysia managing director Armin Keller said the German carmaker would unveil two more sedan models later this year.

"Despite the slower TIV projection, we expect to outdo last year's sales as we focus on the segment priced under RM80,000, which Malaysians can afford," he told the media in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday after launching the company's latest offering, the Volkswagen Vento.

Maybank Investment Bank Research has cut its 2016 TIV forecast to 620,000 from 645,000 units due to poor consumer sentiment and higher car prices.

Keller also noted that in addition to the Vento and two new models to be launched this year, Volkswagen will also reveal another one next year. All the models will be locally-assembled at the DRB-Hicom factory in Pekan, Pahang.

The Volkswagen Vento is available in three variants and priced at RM79,888 for the Trendline, RM86,888 for the Comfortline, and RM93,888 for the Highline.

It is available in Candy White, Flash Red, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel Grey and Deep Black.

The model has been a best seller in India, Russia and in Latin America. - Bernama
