BT proposes US$8.7bil UK broadband network upgrade

More money: There's a significant investment that BT are ready to make now in the next generation of technology.

LONDON: BT Group Plc, seeking to fend off criticism that it has done too little to upgrade the UK’s principal broadband network, proposed spending up to £6bil (US$8.7bil) to bring faster connections to millions of addresses.

The UK’s former telecommunications monopoly unveiled the plan yesterday as it reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter profit, helped by the acquisition of mobile operator EE in January.
