KUALA LUMPUR: Felcra Bhd has acquired a 55% equity stake in local fertiliser producer Diversatech (M) Sdn Bhd for RM35mil.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the acquisition would enable Felcra to cut its fertiliser purchases from Diversatech by about RM5mil a year from the current RM20mil a year.
“The acquisition would benefit not just Felcra but Felcra participants with quality fertilisers at lower prices,” he told reporters after witnessing the signing of the equity purchase agreement here today.
Felcra was represented by its chief executive officer Datuk Ramlee Abu Bakar and Diversatech by its president Datuk Syed Osman Syed Rastan.
With the aquisition, Ismail Sabri said, Felcra would supply fertilisers not only to agencies under the ministry, including the Rubber Industry Smallholder Development Authority (Risda), South East Johore Development Authority (Kejora) and South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar), but also to related agencies under other ministries.
He said Felcra also planned to export fertilisers to Indonesia, where Diversatech has a presence, adding the ministry currently allocated about RM500mil a year to buy fertilisers locally and abroad for all its agencies.
Sinergi Perdana, the consortium formed by Felcra, the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and Risda, is set to produce its own fertilisers, he said.
Construction of the consortium’s RM35mil fertiliser plant in Port Klang, with each partner owning a 33.3% stake, was at an early stage, he noted.
Meanwhile, Felcra chairman Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin said the equity acquisition would strengthen the financial position of the government agency, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. - Bernama
