Bank Negara reappoints deputy governor

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara has reappointed Dr Sukudhew (Sukhdave) Singh as deputy governor for another three-year term effective April 16, 2016.

The central bank said in a statement that Sukhdave, who was appointed to the current post on April 16, 2013 for a three-year term, would continue to hold the position until April 15, 2019.

“He will continue to oversee the monetary and economics sector as well as several departments under the organisational development sector of the bank,” it said.

Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz will step down as Bank Negara governor next month and Sukhdave has been speculated as one of the possible candidates to replace her.

As the country's first woman governor, Zeti has helmed Bank Negara for 16 years.
