MCMC’s move to allocate spectrum surprising

PETALING JAYA: In less than a week after the Government said it would auction telecommunications spectrum as a fund-raising move, the industry regulator has said it had opted to “allocate” two important spectrum bands, the 900MHz and 1,800MHz, rather than auction them.

The allocation will be to existing cellular operators, but it is unclear how the spectrum will be divided among them and how much they will have to pay for it.
