KUALA LUMPUR: Incoming supply of some 7.56 million sq ft of net let table space into the Klang Valley this year is expected to render the retail sub sector challenging in 2016.
CH Williams Talhar & Wong (WTW) managing director Foo Gee Jen said consumers were still cautious on spending, adding that the new supply of space will make it difficult for some retailers to fill up.
“Malls in not-so-popular locations will find it difficult to conduct business,” he said at a briefing today.
Foo said malls totaling 2.05 million sq ft of space entered the Klang Valley market last year.
He however added that the increasing demand by the young and affluent urban population as well as tourists will help maintain retail malls’ performance within Kuala Lumpur, especially the KLCC and Bukit Bintang areas.
