KUCHING: Zecon Bhd has obtained the Sarawak government’s approval for the masterplan of a proposed Super Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) that would involve mixed development of more than 21,000 residential and commercial units in Petra Jaya here.
The masterplan includes the site of offices for the proposed Federal Government administrative centre.
Zecon group managing director Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the company had received the approval for the proposed masterplan development from the state authorities on Monday for the construction of 12,959 residential units, 6,089 low-cost apartment units and 2,290 commercial units.
“The final approval for the proposed Super UTC will have to come from the Federal Government,” he told StarBiz after Zecon AGM here yesterday.
(UTC is one of the Federal Government’s initiatives to provide urban communities a centralised location for core government agencies, public amenities and services of the private sector.)
Zainal said its wholly-owned subsidiary Zecon Land Sdn Bhd was expected to seal the “design and build” contract agreement with PR1MA Corp Malaysia this month for the joint development of PR1MA homes in Petra Jaya where the state secretariat is located. PR1MA Corp has paid RM46mil to Zecon Land for the land in Vista Tunku for the PR1MA housing project,the first in Sarawak.
“The project will involve the development of 2,331 units of apartment and retail units in a commercial complex. The apartments will be housed in 12 eight- to 21-storey blocks.
“We will tender out the construction job for the project which is expected to take four years to complete,” he added.
On the Pan Borneo Highway project, Zainal said Zecon had been pre-qualified by Lebuhraya Borneo Utara to tender for work packages under the planned RM27bil project covering Sarawak and Sabah.
