Surin launches bid to take MWE private


PETALING JAYA: Tycoon Tan Sri Surin Upatkoon has launched a bid to buy out the minority shareholders of MWE Holdings Bhd and take the company private for RM391.4mil in cash and a deferred amount through his investment vehicle Pinjaya Sdn Bhd.

A Thai national and long-time Malaysian resident, Surin has been involved in the MWE group since the 1970s and is a long-time major shareholder of the company, with a stake of 32.96% held directly and indirectly. He is the 12th richest man in Malaysia, according to Forbes.
