Ringgit at near month high, KLCI advances as Tenaga gains


KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit strengthened against the major currencies including the US dollar on Tuesday as investor sentiment towards the local unit perked up after 1Malaysia Development Bhd inked a deal to sell its power assests housed under Edra Global Energy Bhd to a Chinese company for RM9.83bil.

At 5pm, the KLCI was up 6.13 points or 0.37% to 1,677.03, underpinned by gains in power giant Tenaga Nasional after the announcement of the sale of Edra to China Nuclear Power Corporation. Turnover was 2.67 billion shares valued at RM2.39bil. Decliners beat advancers 573 to 373 while 311 counters were unchanged.

Foreign funds turned buyers at RM124.24m while local institutions turned net sellers at -RM115.96 and retailers net sellers at -RM8.28mil.
