TOKYO: Japanese chip supplier Renesas Electronics Corp aims to be an acquirer amid a wave of industry consolidation, hoping to exceed NXP Semiconductors and Freescale Semiconductor in size after their planned merger, its financial chief said.

“As the chips industry consolidates in pursuit of scale, we want to be a proactive rather than a passive player,” chief financial officer Hidetoshi Shibata said in an interview.
