AMSTERDAM: Royal Philips NV, the Dutch company splitting off its lighting business, is extending job cuts at a Belgian factory as demand for conventional bulbs shifts to light-emitting diodes, or LEDs.
Philips planned to cut as many as 159 jobs by the end of 2016 out of about 1,000 workers at the site in Turnhout, spokesman Eric Drent said by telephone. The factory makes high-intensity lamps for sport stadiums, streets and highways and carries out research and development.
