Ringgit advances against US dollar in early trade

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened stronger against the US dollar on Monday as negative sentiment over the latter helped boost demand.

At 9am, the ringgit was traded at 4.4030/4110 against the greenback from 4.4100/4180 recorded at 5 pm on Friday.

A dealer said the sluggish US jobs data, released last week, sparked renewed concerns over the strength of the world's largest economy.

Against other major currencies, the ringgit was traded mixed.

It rose against the Singapore dollar to 3.0734/0792 from 3.0747/0811 on Friday and appreciated against the yen to 3.6692/6774 from 3.6704/6783.

The local note, however, fell against the pound sterling to 6.6926/7065 from 6.6834/6977 and weakened against the euro to 4.9419/9518 from 4.9224/9323. - Bernama
