MBSB, DRB-Hicom buck cautious market


KUALA LUMPUR: Shares of Malaysia Building Society Bhd (MBSB) and DRB-Hicom bucked  the overall cautious market early Friday as the FBM KLCI slumped more  than 12 points on profit taking.

At 9.30am, the KLCI was down 12.11 points or 0.74% to 1,621.82. Turnover was 184.02 million shares valued at RM107.11mil. There were 144 gainers, 192 losers and 173 counters unchanged.

MBSB rose 12 sen to RM1.63 while DRB-Hicom added six sen to RM1.39 in active trade as investors were positive about a merger plan between MBSB and DRB-Hicom’s 70% owned Bank Muamalat.

MBSB announced on Thursday it had got Bank Negara Malaysia’s approval to start talks with DRB-Hicom and Khazanah Nasional on the merger.

Meanwhile, most key plantations fell on profit taking. KL Kepong fell 32 sen to RM21.96, IOI Corp 25 sen to RM4.15 and Genting Plantations 23 sen to RM9.91.

BAT fell the most, down 58 sen to RM60.22 while Petronas Gas slumped 50 sen to RM21.64 with 200 shares done. Genting Bhd lost 16 sen RM7.28.

Bucking the market were KESM, up 12 sen to RM4.55 and SAM nine sen to RM6.09. Glove maker Kossan gained eight sen to RM7.78 with 100 shares done.
