Roadmap to speed up National Internet of Things adoption

KUALA LUMPUR: The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry and MIMOS Bhd have launched the National Internet of Things (IoT) roadmap to take the lead in accelerating IoT adoption in Malaysia.

In a statement , International Data Corp (IDC) said the roadmap will play an important role to foster mutual support and coordination among various technological players to leverage on existing solutions and develop end-to-end IoT solutions.

IDC said the initiative brought together over 40 organisations from different verticals and technological areas to drive IoT adoption in Malaysia.

At the launch, a memorandum of understanding was signed by MIMOS, Cyberview, SAS Institute, and Cyber Security for a Smart City IoT trial show, one of the early IoT implementation initiatives as a result of the collaboration.

IDC Malaysia research manager, telecommunications, Alfie Amir, said that with the right implementation, the roadmap will drive the formation of an IoT ecosystem and create new opportunities in Malaysia.

"It will also accelerate the evolution of existing machine-to-machine solutions that have been around for over 10 years," he said. "The roadmap will also address the challenges that slow down IoT adoption and increase the adoption in both public and private sectors in Malaysia."
