The launching ceremony was officiated by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin at the Mimos campus here yesterday. The BDA-DGL is an initiative resulting from a tripartite memorandum of understanding between Mimos, the Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) and the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) signed in January 2015.
Dr Ewon said the Government was serious in implementing BDA in line with expanding the country’s science, technology and innovation agenda.
“With the Lab, we want to accelerate the implementation of BDA in the Government towards ensuring efficient service delivery, knowledge generation, wealth creation and societal well-being towards national economic growth,” he said.
He also said that the Ministry hoped to attract, groom and retain data scientists through the facilities available at Mimos.
Dr Ewon said that the Ministry would work closely with the Communications and Multimedia Ministry to ensure data security and sovereignty.
Mimos chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah said that the laboratory, which would host government data, would be the platform for the cross-fertilisation of data across different agencies and possible integration with the social media data, mainly from the rakyat. — Bernama
