Pepper prices heat up


Domestic pepper market tracks closely global prices of the spice, which is increasingly used in food preparations and preservation.

KUCHING: Domestic pepper prices, which are into their sixth consecutive year of rally, chalked up the biggest single-day gain last week as new buying trend gathers momentum in the world’s top producer and supplier, Vietnam.

The Kuching Grade 1 white pepper (farm gate price) jumped by RM3,000 to hit the RM40,000 per tonne mark on Tuesday or up by more than 8% from the previous day.
