Was the buying frenzy by many before the GST necessary?

"Savings from the pre-GST may not put more money in your pockets at the end of the day if you are foregoing your cash flow, buying unnecessary items, branded products that you have never thought of buying before or over-stocking on consumables which may expire and be thrown away," says Joyce Chuah(pic), who is CEO of success Concepts Life Planners

Shelves became empty, malls were full of people and there were massive jams during the weekends. Such herd mentality happens everywhere in the world just before a hike or introduction of a sales tax. The real question is this: is the frenzy buying really necessary?

Yes, “very necessary”, as my mother full heartedly concurred. Her basis of “saving money by spending more” on specific consumables and subscriptions that will potentially increase in price post GST seems plausibly logical. These savings can pack a punch especially for big-ticket items which can come in very handy later on.
