Business as usual for RadioShack Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya RadioShack Sdn Bhd said that its operations in Malaysia is not affected by the position that RadioShack Corporation USA is currently in.

In a statement on Friday, the technology retailer noted that Berjaya RadioShack is a separate entity from RadioShack Corporation, with an entirely separate P&L that is accountable to Berjaya Retail Bhd.

"RadioShack Malaysia does not rely on RadioShack Corporation and has its own arrangements in place with distributors worldwide for merchandise," it said.

In USA, RadioShack Corporation has been undergoing financial losses which has caused it to default in its debt settlement and has since been delisted on the New York Stock Exchange.

It faced delisting because the average market capitalisation of the company had fallen to less than US$50mil for 30 consecutive trading days.

Berjaya RadioShack chief operating officer Yau Su Peng said : "“We have been prepared for this situation and assure our customers that in Malaysia,  RadioShack will continue to operate as usual.

"We are well stocked and do not forsee any interruption in our inventory," she said.
