Strong earnings seen for TNB on lower costs

PETALING JAYA: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) is expected to register a strong finish for its financial year ended Aug 31, 2014 (FY14), with its fourth-quarter earnings projected to rise significantly on an annual basis due to lower electricity-generation costs.

According to the consensus estimates of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg, the national utility company will likely see its fourth-quarter earnings increase by more than five-fold to RM1.28bil from RM219.4mil in the corresponding quarter of last year. For the full year, TNB’s net profit is expected to have increased 12.7% to RM5.2bil from RM4.61bil in FY13.
