In a bid to increase foreign investment and accelerate the drive to liberalise its banking sector, the Central Bank of Myanmar yesterday announced that nine foreign lenders had been given licences to operate in the country.
The long-anticipated move is being hailed as another promising sign that the former pariah state is serious about integrating its economy globally.
