Berjaya Land profit down on lower gaming and hotel earnings

PETALING JAYA: Berjaya Land Bhd’s (BLand) net profit for the first quarter ended July 31 plunged 63.26% to RM37.66mil from RM102.52mil in the previous corresponding quarter.

The group said the decline was due to a higher prize payout and operating expenses incurred by the gaming business, lower profit contribution from the hotels and resorts business, a higher share of losses from the group’s joint ventures and higher finance costs.
