Wee: We win some, we lose some

FOR those who track developments of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) closely, the appointment of Datuk Wee Yiaw Hin in May 2010 was a significant milestone. As a top private sector oil and gas (O&G) man, his appointment signified the oil giant’s seriousness at becoming more professional and merit driven. Wee has played a key role in implementing international best practise into Petronas to make it more commercial driven.

Wee, 56, hails from Sibu, Sarawak. He tells StarBizWeek that in his first townhall meeting with Petronas staff, he placed a three-quarter-full glass in front of him and said: “Petronas has done well. What I would like to do together with you, is to fill up the glass.”
