TS Eliot’s The Love Song of Alfred J. Prufrock is such a gloomy poem about a frustrated middle-aged man that one wouldn’t expect Nicole Tan to cite it as her favourite poem.
The managing director of advertising agency JWT Kuala Lumpur, interviewed at her office in Kuala Lumpur, couldn’t quite recall the title of the poem. She, however, manages to recite fairly closely these verses from it, “Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons/I have measured out my life with coffee spoons.”
