CM resignation will not affect Sarawak rating: S&P


Standard & Poor's said today its rating on Sarawak would not affected by the imminent resignation of the state's long-serving Chief Minister, Abdul Taib Mahmud.

SINGAPORE: Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said the rating on Sarawak (A-/Stable/--; axAA/--) would not be affected by the imminent resignation of the state's long-serving Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

“Taib recently announced his intention to retire by the end of February 2014. The ruling party in Sarawak has given the chief minister a mandate to appoint his successor. Taib is likely to continue his political career as a senior statesman in ceremonial and advisory roles,” S&P said on Tuesday.
