PETALING JAYA: Inflation, as measured by the increase in the consumer price index (CPI), rose to a 25-month high last month, driven mainly by higher prices in alcoholic beverages and tobacco products as well as transport costs.
According to the Department of Statistics, the CPI in December 2013 had accelerated to 3.2% year-on-year (y-o-y), which was slightly above the market’s expectation of a 3.1% y-o-y increase. Last November, the CPI rose 2.9% y-o-y.
