KUALA LUMPUR: Asean will need to focus on productivity growth rather than credit-fuelled growth as the region heads for a slower growth period in the next few years, says HSBC Malaysia chief economist Leif Eskesen (pic).
He said the credit-fuelled growth story in Asean over the past few years could not continue at the same pace and that there would be a need for monetary, fiscal and macroprudential tightening. which would provide some headwinds for growth in the next couple of years.
