PETALING JAYA: Asian telecommunication companies (telcos), in their efforts to manage capital and operating expenditure efficiently, may find monetising assets such as telecommunication towers increasingly attractive as voice revenue fall and margin pressure increases from aggressive investments in data networks.
RHB Research analyst Jeffrey Tan said the strategy to monetise assets “is fast gaining popularity in the region as more Asian telcos are looking at the sharing of towers or the disposal of passive infrastructure to unlock value”.
