ETP attracting the young

KUALA LUMPUR: The Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) is aiming to nurture a new breed of “agripreneurs” and bring the younger generation into the fold of an industry known more for physical toil than huge profits.

This comes at a time when agriculture’s contribution to the Malaysian economy as measured by gross domestic product has plummeted to 7% in 2010 from 32% in 1970, while the average age of a farmer is 60. To make matters worse, the country is now a net importer of food.
