MDeC allocates RM3m grants for ICON3

KUALA LUMPUR: Multimedia Development Corp (MDeC) is allocating RM3mil worth of grants for ICON3, the third MSC Malaysia ICON programme.

Chief executive officer Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said MDeC targetted a 20% increase in revenue generated over the previous ECON programme, ECON2, of RM100,000.

The Integrated Content Development Programme (ICON) was introduced in 2009 to enable up-and-coming local applications developers to create world-class applications and mobile content, particularly those focused on the consumer, social and education markets.

Badlisham said the success of the ICON and ICON2 programmes had convinced MDeC that Malaysian app developers were now ready to capitalise on new monetisation opportunities.

“Hence, ICON 2013’s focus is to trigger innovation by nurturing and driving app developers to harness the growing local enterprise app opportunities by encouraging them to produce customised solutions and gain immediate opportunities to work with the industry on larger projects,” he said after the launch of ICON3.

ICON3 will empower developers to move up the value chain by focusing on applications for enterprises. — Bernama
