PUTRAJAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar is expected to come out with a new direction plan for the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) in less than 100 days.
“Allow me to take some time to know better the scope and focus of the EPU and the agencies under my jurisdiction,” he told reporters after the handover of duty ceremony yesterday.
Abdul Wahid was sworn in as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of the EPU on June 5.
The former president and chief executive officer of Maybank said as a recipient of affirmative action, his appointment was a great honour for him to repay the Government and do his part for the benefit of the people.
“When I was approached by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, I felt obliged to accept and it’s a great honour and a great responsibility given to me.
“For someone who has benefited so much from the Government’s affirmative action, I felt compelled to accept the position and do my part for the country,” he said.
He said many other people from the underprivileged community who had benefited and progressed would have done the same thing.
Looking ahead, Abdul Wahid said he needed time to get to know EPU and its agencies better, its development and what needed to be focused on before coming out with new plan.
Abdul Wahid said plans for EPU were expected to be different compared with that of the corporate companies he had worked for before. – Bernama
