Thailand cuts rice export target

BANGKOK: Thai rice exporters have cut a forecast for 2013 exports of the grain to 6.0 million tonnes from 6.5 million, a trade body said, hit by uncompetitive prices caused by a government purchase scheme and a strong baht currency.

The latest export forecast was down 13% from the 6.9 million tonnes Thailand exported in 2012 and was far below the record of 10.6 million tonnes in 2011. – Reuters
