LAST month, there was a report on a study where faecal matter from a person with healthy bacteria was inserted into the gut of a patient. In this treatment, faeces from the healthy person is diluted with saline solution after the removal of particles and then introduced through a tube via the nose to the stomach.
Patients who opted for it were mainly those who were quite desperate and suffer from acute diarrhoea where conventional treatment failed to work.
