Maybank margin still under pressure; Analysts expect flat earnings growth for Q3

Market leader: The slowdown in the country’s business loans would likely have an impact on Maybank’s business loan growth as Maybank accounts for 19% to 20% of total business loans in Malaysia, says UOB Kay Hian.

PETALING JAYA: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) should not spring any surprise when it reports its third-quarter results for the period ended Sept 30 this Friday with analysts expecting its net interest margin (NIM) to remain under pressure.

Still as the country's largest bank by assets, UOB Kay Hian noted that Maybank's NIM could contract by only five to 10 basis points as it had a better pricing advantage amid rising pricing competition in the market.
