KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) was the big winner at the National Annual Corporate Report Awards (NACRA) 2012, bagging Platinum in the Overall Excellence Award besides sweeping the highest number of awards.
The Gold and Silver awards for Overall Excellence went to Public Bank Bhd and Telekom Malaysia Bhd
, respectively.
Public Bank also emerged as the top winner for the Best Annual Report in Bahasa Malaysia by winning the Platinum award.
The Platinum award for Best Corporate Social Responsibility was won by Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd.
Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia won the Special Award for non-listed organisations.
The awards were presented by Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
NACRA is jointly organised by Bursa Malaysia Bhd, Malaysia Institute of Accountants, and the Malaysia Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
NACRA’s objective is to promote excellence in corporate reporting, greater transparency and accountability by respective parties in their financial reporting.
The awards are to acknowledge and recognise high quality corporate reporting.
NACRA is open to all companies incorporated or registered in Malaysia as well as the public sector and other organisations established in Malaysia.
Themed “Towards Excellence and Accountability”, the competition is reflective of the need to create a corporate Malaysia that exceeds global benchmarks and cultivate greater confidence in our economy.
NACRA Adjudication Committee chairman Stephen Oong said that annual reports were powerful message bearer of a company.
“It must be written, presented, designed and packaged in such a way that create interest and attract the reader’s attention. These attributes are what a good annual report should have, and are what the adjudicators look for,” he said.
