WHEN the residents on my street started the guarded community over a year ago, the security company was charging RM4.50 per hour for the guard. It has since been increased to RM5.60 an hour (inclusive of service tax).
A 10-hour day would translate to less than RM50 for the guard. At his work place, which is by the road side, there are no toilet facilities. For a long time, the guard only had an umbrella to shelter him from the heat and rain.
